Dear Representative [INSERT LAST NAME],

My name is [YOUR FULL NAME], and I am a constituent in your district. I am writing to ask you to cosponsor H.R. 3821, the bipartisan Allergen Disclosure in Non-food Articles (ADINA) Act.

Select or personalize your reason below: ]

  • I live with [ a life-threatening food allergy / Celiac Disease / Eosinophilic Esophagitis / other food allergic disease ]
  • My [ child/spouse/loved one ] is one of over 33 million Americans with a life-threatening food allergy.
  • Our family lives in constant fear of hidden allergens in medication due to a lack of labeling transparency

Currently, there is no federal requirement to disclose whether medications contain a major food allergens or gluten. You can walk down any aisle of the grocery store and see allergen warning labels on any packaged product, but that protection ends at the pharmacy. This puts millions of Americans at unnecessary risk, especially vulnerable children and individuals with chronic medical conditions.

In 2019, an 11-year-old girl tragically died after using a prescription containing her known allergen, dairy, which her family had no way of knowing about. ( Source: https://www.allergicliving.com/2019/04/15/after-daughters-fatal-reaction-to-toothpaste-mother-calls-for-caution/ )

Medications like Prednisone, Claritin, Advair, Montelukast, and Benadryl – often prescribed because of allergic reactions, can contain hidden allergens such as milk (lactose), putting patients in danger when they’re most vulnerable.

The ADINA Act, introduced by Reps, Kelly Morrison (D-MN-3), Mike Lawler (R-NY-17), Ben Cline (R-VA-6), and Doris Matsui (D-CA-7), will require clear, plain-language labeling of all major food allergens and gluten containing grains in both over-the-counter and prescription medications.

With over 100 million Americans affected by food allergies, Celiac Disease, EoE, FPIES, Alpha-Gal Syndrome, and other related conditions, this bill is a common-sense solution to close a dangerous and long-standing safety gap.

Please stand with families like mine.
Cosponsor the ADINA Act (H..R. 3821) today.

Thank you for your time and leadership.

Sincerely,
[YOUR FIRST & LAST NAME
